Michael became President and CEO of Westec Security Group in Newport Beach, California in 1985. During a fifteen-year tenure at Westec, Michael led the company through a series of successful growth initiatives, acquisitions and divestitures. In 1985 Westec consisted solely of a $35 million operating unit. By 1994 the company's portfolio had grown to $250 million, with 4,000 employees in 60 locations across the country.

In 2000, Michael founded ClearLight Partners to leverage his 17 years of experience helping middle-market companies achieve their potential.

Prior to joining Westec, Michael practiced corporate law with the national law firm of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, in Los Angeles. He is fluent in Japanese, and has had extensive experience transacting business in Japan.

He holds a BA degree from Stanford University, a JD from Harvard Law School, and studied Japanese law at the University of Tokyo in Japan.

Patrick J. Haiz

Prior to joining ClearLight Partners, Patrick was a Principal at Gryphon Investors, Inc., a middle-market private equity fund based in San Francisco, which he co-founded in 1995. While at Gryphon, Patrick successfully led several leveraged buyouts
of middle-market companies.

Before co-founding Gryphon, Patrick worked as a Vice President in Citicorp's merchant banking operations in Milan, Italy where he completed several large international leveraged buyouts. Prior to Citicorp, Patrick spent three years at Salomon Brothers' Corporate Finance department in New York.

Patrick earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Virginia and holds an MBA from Stanford University. Patrick is fluent in both Italian and Spanish.

Jay F. Shepherd

Prior to forming ClearLight Partners in 2000, Jay was the Vice President of Corporate Development and Chief Financial Officer for the Westec Security Group. At Westec Jay was responsible for mergers and acquisitions and strategic planning, and led Westec’s residential dealer and franchise divisions, as well as its commercial division.

Before joining Westec, Jay had extensive experience in mergers and acquisitions, both as a financial advisor and as a corporate acquirer. He was Vice President of Investment Banking for The Seidler Companies, and, prior to that, a Director of Merger & Acquisition Services for Coopers & Lybrand. In each of these capacities Jay advised middle-market clients on a wide range of sell-side and buy-side transactions, as well as financing strategies.

Previous to C & L, Jay held numerous positions in the corporate development and treasury groups at Security Pacific Corporation and served as Assistant to the President and CEO. While at Security Pacific, Jay played an integral role in several major bank acquisitions, and in raising capital via the issuance of publicly traded debt and equity securities.

Jay has a BA in Business Economics from the University of California at Los Angeles, and an MBA from the Harvard Business School.
